Big Game Hunting Season Dates and Maps

2007-2008 DEC New York Hunting and Trapping Guide

Protected Wildlife
Most species including endangered species, song birds, hawks, owls,may not be taken.
Do NOT shoot Spruce Grouse. A hunting lisence is required to take all unprotected species.
2007-2008 Big Game Hunting
Northern Zone Bowhunting September 27th - October 17th
  Muzzleloading October 11th - October 17th
  Regular Deer and Bear October 18th - December 7th
  Early Bear September 13th - October 10th
     
Southern Zone Bowhunting October 18th - November 14th
    December 8th - December 16th
  Muzzleloading December8th - December 16th
  Regular Deer November 15th - December 7th
  Regular Bear Catskill November 17th - December 7th
  Regular Bear Allegany November 22nd - December 7th
Mandatory Education
A general course 10 hours in length is required for persons who cannot proove
they have ever posessed a hunting lisence before. The DEC honors certificates
and lisences from all other states and countries.
Bowhunters must take an additional 8 hour bow
hunter education course.

Region 5 includes lands in the eastern half of New York's Northern Zone hunting area,
including most of the Adirondacks and Champlain valley. Franklin,
Clinton, Essex, Hamilton, Warren, Fulton, Saratoga
and Washington counties make up this region.
