Canoe Routes and Directions
The major canoeing routes in the Southern Adirondacks range from
the calm paddle of the backcountry lakes to the Class III river
rapids.
Canada Lake
Enjoy the flatwater paddling of Canada Lake. Canada Lake connects
to Green Lake, Lily Lake, West Lake, and Stewart's Landing. Exploring
these canoeing connections will take you a least two days.
Canada Lake can be accessed at the West Lake launch.

Lower West Branch Sacandaga River
At the right water levels this can be an exciting eight-mile run
with up to Class III rapids. Spring is the best time for attempting
this steep gradient of 55 feet per mile.

Pine Lake
Pine Lake provides a beautiful scenic paddle into small coves.
It is a great place to dock your canoe and explore some of the
old remains of the logging camps.

Peck's Lake
Peck's Lake is a larger lake that frequents many boaters in the
summer months. The shore lines contain many camps and homes.

Sacandaga River
Start your trip below the three impassable waterfalls which can
be viewed from Route 30. The next 13 miles is an exciting slalom
of almost continuous fast Whitewater with up to Class III rapids.
Lake Algonquin appears four miles into the run. After a carry around
the outlet dam, the race resumes. The route is best done at high
water levels. This route will take you down to Hope.

Stoner Lake
Stoner Lake is a small flatwater paddles. It contains many homes
and camps along the shoreline.

Upper West Branch Sacandaga River
This Class I flatwater can be paddled in either direction, making
for a nice round trip.Two navigable outlets side trips can be
assessed (Chubb and Trout Lake). Below this point, the river
drops rapidly through a remote gorge with two impassable
waterfalls.
