The
Great Sacandaga Lake is no different than most walleye lakes
throughout the USA and Canada, that being trophy walleye are less
frequently
caught then the every day ones. Occasionally a Trophy Walleye
is taken, but most of them go unseen except during their spawning
runs. Yes, they do exist in the GSL, and I have customers catch
them every year: remember, I’m there everyday, so my
odds are better than most. I’ve found that certain areas
continually produce trophy walleye year after year. Trophy
walleye can be targeted,
but you must be willing to forget about stringers of fish and
change traditional methods.
Timing
can be important, both in time of year and day. I prefer late
August thru October, and May. June and July can be good if the weather
and water conditions are just right. Some people catch an occasional
Trophy, but seldom do they do it year after year. I believe
I have
found the areas and methods that produce Trophy walleye out
of the GSL every year. I’ve spent many hours getting that data,
I’m not going to just advertise it, but there is one
way for you to find out, book a trip!. Remember this is not
a numbers
game: you must be willing to spend hours on the Lake catching
less fish, but bigger fish. Those of you who don’t believe
they exist, spend a night during the spawning run and you will
be amazed
at the size of the GSL walleye!!
Pictures
here are trophy walleye that my customers have taken on the GSL,
as big as Thirteen and a half ponds to as small as 5 pounds.
